Wilson's Last-Minute Brace Secures Fulham's 2-1 Victory Over Brentford
Harry Wilson scored twice in stoppage time to give Fulham a thrilling 2-1 win over west London rivals Brentford on Monday evening.
Brentford had taken the lead against the run of play in the 24th minute through a powerful shot from Vitaly Janelt, who fired past Fulham's goalkeeper Bernd Leno from distance.
Fulham struggled to break down Brentford's defense in the first half and could not capitalize on early chances. Reiss Nelson saw his shot blocked by Brentford's goalkeeper Mark Flekken in the opening moments of the match. Despite a strong start, Fulham was unable to find the equalizer before halftime.
The visitors doubled down on their defensive efforts after the break, and Fulham's frustrations continued. It wasn't until the 90th minute that Wilson found the net, flicking home the equalizer from a cross by Adama Traore.
With barely seconds remaining in added time, Wilson then scored his second goal, heading the ball past Flekken. However, the Welsh international admitted that the header was not intentional. "The first one I just helped it on to the back post and the second one was more lucky. I was trying to head it into the other corner but it hit my shoulder and went in," Wilson said.
The two goals in stoppage time earned Fulham a dramatic win, lifting them to ninth in the Premier League standings, just three points off the top four. In contrast, Brentford, who had been on course to secure a spot in the top half of the table, remain in 12th after the late turn of events.
Marco Silva's side dominated possession and kept Brentford on the back foot throughout the match, despite the early setback. "It was an amazing feeling to come on and get the two goals to win the game. We deserved it, we kept them pinned in throughout," Wilson remarked after the match.
