The Dallas are trading veteran wing to the in exchange for guard Quentin Grimes, according to sources who spoke with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

In addition to Hardaway, Dallas is sending Detroit a 2025 second-round pick and two 2028 second-round selections.

This transaction helps the Mavericks clear approximately $12 million from their salary cap and acquire a young player poised for a comeback season.

Following the trade, the Mavericks are positioned about $15.7 million below the first tax apron, as reported by ESPN's Bobby Marks.

During the regular season, Hardaway was Dallas' third-leading scorer, averaging 14.4 points across 79 games. However, head coach Jason Kidd struggled to find a role for him in the 2024 NBA Finals due to defensive concerns, resulting in Hardaway playing only 47 minutes throughout the five-game series.

Grimes, who averaged seven points and two rebounds in 51 games with the New York Knicks and Pistons during the 2023-24 season, was a 2021 first-round pick. While he has shown potential as a shooter and scorer, his shooting percentages from the field and three-point range reached career lows last year.

According to Spotrac's Keith Smith, the Pistons still have $51.1 million in available cap space.
