Pistons, Cunningham Finalize 5-Year, $224M Rookie Max Contractillustration

Cade Cunningham has agreed to a five-year, $224 million maximum rookie with the Detroit Pistons, according to his agents as reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The contract could potentially reach up to $269 million if Cunningham earns an All-NBA team selection, Wojnarowski notes.

Last season, the 22-year-old averaged 22.7 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in 62 games. Despite Cunningham's impressive performance, the Pistons finished with a league-worst 14-68 record.

Since being drafted first overall in 2021 from Oklahoma State, Detroit has not won more than 23 games.

The Pistons recently underwent organizational changes, appointing Trajan Langdon as president of operations in May. Former Coach of the Year Monty Williams was dismissed, and J.B. Bickerstaff, previously with the Cleveland Cavaliers, took over as head coach.

In June's NBA Draft, Detroit selected forward Ron Holland with the fifth overall pick. During the offseason, the Pistons traded for Tim Hardaway Jr. from the Dallas Mavericks, signed Tobias Harris and Malik Beasley in free agency, and re-signed Simone Fontecchio.
